Original METAL CHURCH Singer's Obituary Published In Tacoma Newspaper
May 31, 2005The May 29 edition of the Tacoma News Tribune contained the following obituary for original METAL CHURCH singer David Wayne written by his daughter Tonya Lee:
"David Wayne Carnell 1/1/58 - 5/10/05: Born in Renton, Washington, Dave was a son to Billie and Verna, and an older brother to Doug, Dennis, and Darrell. After a tour with the US Army as a field medic, he ventured into a profession that impassioned him, that of being a lead vocalist for heavy metal bands including METAL CHURCH, REVEREND and WAYNE. At age 47, he died at his home in Tacoma, Washington and was laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver, Washington. After his passing, his brothers and members of his family got together and shared memories of growing up. Everyone laughed. Later, friends shared their stories and we laughed some more. He will be sorely missed by those who had the opportunity to know him. He was also a father, my father. I believe with all my heart I will see him again, but until then, he will be missed."
An official guest book where fans and friends can write their condolences has been launched at Legacy.com.
Wayne sang on METAL CHURCH's first two classic offerings (1984's "Metal Church" and 1986's "The Dark") before leaving the group and being replaced by Mike Howe. Wayne subsequently teamed up with members of HERETIC members to form REVEREND, with whom he released two full-length albums and a couple of EPs. He eventually rejoined METAL CHURCH in time for the 1999 reunion album, "Masterpeace". A "solo" album (under the WAYNE banner),entitled "Metal Church" followed in 2001.
